Luxtec Surgical Light Source
Luxtec, a world leader in the development and manufacture of headlights and Xenon light sources for surgeons, wanted to introduce a new, lower cost light source for clinical applications.
Luxtec came to us to help them create a new product that would represent a fresh, updated design aesthetic as part of a complete revamping of their product line.
The new CLX Light Source has a unique combination of softened yet geometric surfaces that conveys the power and capability within, yet translates into an approachable, friendly design language. The curvature of the sides is created using aluminum extrusions and gives the unit a “richness” that differentiate it from Luxtec’s competitors’ products. 
The CLX uses Xenon lighting technology emitted through fiber optic cable to create a clean, almost daylight-like, work area while surgery is being performed. Xenon is a perfect light source for surgical applications because it burns much cooler than halogen, is more powerful, and is environmentally friendly due the absence of any mercury salt. Operating in this near daylight condition allows the surgeon optimal use of his or her vision. They can quickly see and react to very subtle changes in a patient during surgery that would not be visible if using a different light source.
