Design improves accuracy

J&J DePuy asked Continuum to create a new tool for clamping and cutting the patella during knee replacement surgery.

A surgeon's skill is vital to the success of this operation but a tool that assists in make the correct angle of cut would greatly increase the consistency of success.

To do this, Continuum designed and then created physical models of many different concepts. These physical models then allowed for hard feedback from surgeons early in the design process. The resulting design incorporated a new guide for angle-of-cut that improved surgical accuracy while firmly retaining the patella. The effectiveness of this device has resulted in improved patient recovery and it continues to be the tool of choice for this surgery.
